YouTube Mentor is a Chrome / Brave extension for desktop — it can't be installed on a phone. The extension runs where you watch YouTube.

Backup install via ZIP (alternative)

If you can't use the Chrome Web Store (e.g. corporate device with CWS blocked), use the ZIP + Developer mode.

Manual install procedure (Developer mode)

  1. 1Unzip the downloaded youtube-mentor-extension.zip into a permanent folder (e.g. C:\YouTubeMentor\). Don't delete the folder — Chrome loads the extension from it.
  2. 2In Chrome, open chrome://extensions
  3. 3Top right, enable Developer mode
  4. 4Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder
  5. 5The extension appears in the toolbar — click the M icon in the red circle
Updating to a new version:
  1. Empty the folder — open C:\YouTubeMentor\, select all (Ctrl+A) and delete. Keep the folder itself.
  2. Download the new zip above and unzip it into the same empty folder.
  3. In chrome://extensions click the 🔄 Reload icon next to the extension.
  4. Refresh open YouTube tabs with F5.
Without this, Chrome keeps using old JS files (you'll see it in stack traces: youtube-monitor.ts-XXXXXXXX.js with a different hash than current).

Pair with mentor

  1. 1Your mentor will give you a pairing code (8 characters, e.g. X7K2P9MF)
  2. 2Right-click the extension icon → Options
  3. 3Backend URL: https://ytmentor.online
  4. 4Paste the pairing code, click Pair
  5. 5Done — when you open YouTube, heartbeats start being sent to your mentor
Note: Pairing code is valid for 1 hour. After pairing, the extension stores a long-lived token — it works until you press Disconnect.
